Non-Musical history for today: 1945 – The Battle of Iwo Jima ended as the island was officially secured by American forces. The memorial that stands in Arlington today features six American soldiers raising the flag in February 1945. The six represented on the memorial are: Corporal Harlon H. Block, Corporal Harold P. Keller, Private First Class Franklin R. Sousley, Sergeant Michael Strank, Private First Class Harold H. Schultz, and Ira H. Hayes. Yes, THE Ira Hayes that Johnny Cash sang about in Peter La Farge’s “The Ballad of Ira Hayes.” I guess it was kind of musical after all.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for March 26.

Recorded in the Such-N-Such Media Studios at Liberty Plaza or Such-N-Such Media Studio South.
