Non-musical history for today: 1969 – Stonewall riots began in New York City, marking the start of the Gay Rights Movement.
I have stood in the memorial park in front of what was the Stonewall Inn (or at least what is purported to be it). It is sombre. It is powerful. It is shameful. Not what the rioters did, but what the police did (was doing, has been doing, is still doing) to sexual minorities.
