Beeswax Vinyl Daily — June 29, 2026

Non-musical history for today: 1971 – Prior to re-entry (following a record-setting stay aboard the Soviet Union’s Salyut 1 space station), the crew capsule of the Soyuz 11 spacecraft depressurized, killing the three cosmonauts on board. Georgy Dobrovolsky, Vladislav Volkov, and Viktor Patsayev were the first humans to die in space. The cosmonauts had asphyxiated after a ventilation valve malfunctioned after a series of other mishaps. Autopsies found that the cause of death for the cosmonauts was hemorrhaging of the blood vessels in their brains, with lesser amounts of bleeding under their skin, in their inner ears, and in their nasal cavities, all of which occurred as exposure to a vacuum environment caused the oxygen and nitrogen in their bloodstreams to bubble and rupture vessels. Yuck.

Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for June 29.

Recorded in the Such-N-Such Studios at Liberty Plaza.
