Non-musical history for today: 1939 – The Sutton Hoo helmet was discovered. It was thought to be buried around the year c. 620–625 AD and is widely associated with an Anglo-Saxon leader, King Rædwald of East Anglia. The helmet was both a functional piece of armor and a decorative piece of metalwork. The visage features eyebrows, a nose, and a mustache, creating the image of a man joined to a dragon’s head, becoming a soaring dragon with outstretched wings.
