Non-musical history for today: 1976 – In New York City, David Berkowitz (a.k.a. the “Son of Sam”) killed one person and seriously wounded another in the first of a series of attacks. Berkowitz was subsequently indicted for eight shootings. He confessed to all of them and initially claimed to have been obeying the orders of a demon manifested in the form of a black dog named “Sam”, which belonged to his neighbor. He then admitted that it was BS. Berkowitz is currently incarcerated at the maximum-security Shawangunk Correctional Facility in Wallkill, New York. He no longer seeks release, even skipping his latest parole hearing in May, 2026.
