Non-musical history for today: 1703 – Daniel Defoe was placed in a pillory for the crime of seditious libel after publishing a politically satirical pamphlet, but was pelted with flowers. A pillory, if you don’t know, is related to stocks in which the head and wrists are locked in a wooden shackle. Defoe wrote Robinson Crusoe, Moll Flanders, and more.
