Non-musical history for today: 1947 – The House Un-American Activities Committee (how stupid is that?) began its investigation into Communist infiltration of the Hollywood film industry, resulting in a blacklist that prevented some from working in the industry for years. Some never really recovered. The ones initially added to the list (more came in the following few years): Alvah Bessie, screenwriter; Herbert Biberman, screenwriter and director; Lester Cole, screenwriter; Edward Dmytryk, director; Ring Lardner Jr., screenwriter; John Howard Lawson, screenwriter; Albert Maltz, screenwriter; Samuel Ornitz, screenwriter; Adrian Scott, producer and screenwriter; Dalton Trumbo, screenwriter; Bertolt Brecht, playwright and screenwriter; Richard Collins, screenwriter; Howard Koch, screenwriter; Gordon Kahn, screenwriter; Robert Rossen, screenwriter and director; Waldo Salt, screenwriter; Lewis Milestone, director; Irving Pichel, actor and director; Larry Parks, actor. Ridiculous.
Music history, album anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths for October 20.
Recorded in the Such-N-Such Studios at Liberty Plaza.
